This class
was similar to the earlier Oberon class but of a larger length and
further improvements, they had a raked stem (bows) and a shield
was provided for the 4 inch gun.
Four of this
class, Poseidon, Perseus, Proteus and Pandora set out for the China
Station in 1930. Submarines at this time were based at Wei Hai Wei
on the North-east coast of the Chinese Province of Shantung.
Pandora and
Parthian were participants of the 'Magic Carpet' run supplying Malta
with essential stores during the blockade of the island.
Proteus was
the only surviving boat of this class at the end of WWII.
